Analysis of the Battlefield 2042 beta test is a failure of DICE?

The open beta test of the new part of the Battlefield series of games – Battlefield 2042 – has just recently ended. This beta test cannot be called successful and perhaps this part will be DICE’s biggest failure! Is this really so?? We’ll find out in a new article! Enjoy your acquaintance!

Just one map, one mode and a bunch of bugs, as well as huge problems with the network code! This is exactly how you can describe in one sentence the entire beta test of the new part of Battlefield! If you are interested in the details, then sit back, Maxim is working for you at the typewriter, and this is an analysis of the Battlefield 2042 beta test, enjoy reading it!

Mode and map

During the beta test, players were allowed to play on one map, which was called Cosmodrome. The map is an almost completely open area of ​​the spaceport, with two huge launch pad buildings at opposite ends of the map and several smaller buildings scattered chaotically throughout the territory.

The map is perfect for fans of both ground and air vehicles, since infantry has almost no opportunity to hide somewhere from a barrage of fire. Therefore, all infantry battles were mainly concentrated on 2-3 points, and the rest of the space was given over to the equipment. And this, as for me, is the first mistake of the developers! The card, although according to DICE themselves, was their favorite, it could not provide players with the full gaming experience that could allow the player to clearly decide whether to buy the game or not.

Judge for yourself: the lack of opportunity to conduct normal infantry battles with the complete dominance of vehicles on the map, frequent skirmishes at long and ultra-long distances – all this clearly did not inspire fans of infantry battles to continue participating in the beta test, and also did not allow them to try out the entire arsenal of weapons that were provided in the beta.

Personally, I only ran with a Kalashnikov, since its versatility helped me fire at almost any distance. What can we say about shotguns and submachine guns, which, it seems to me, only YouTubers and streamers ran around with, and only to record a couple of normal footage, and then switch to more suitable weapons.

But maybe the calling card of the Battlefield series of games – the “convest” mode, also known as capture, can change our opinion about the game?! Maybe there was something in it that could make the player throw a wad of other eternally wooden currency into the monitor?!

Alas, no! The capture mode itself has changed a little: now you do not have conditional points to control, each such point is divided into two zones, after the simultaneous capture of which the enemy team begins to lose points. And these are all the innovations in this mode!

Of course, dividing points into noaccount-casinos.co.uk zones of control gives some tactical scope for players, and also contributes to a more even distribution of battles across the map, but this is still the good old “conquest” that we have seen a thousand times in previous games in the series! It’s not able to sell the game to new players on its own because it’s a little boring and has analogues in hundreds of other games, and for old-timers who have been waiting for the game for many years, I think they deserve something more interesting than the usual point capture.

In general, I don’t think that this combination of map and mode is capable of arousing interest among the majority of players who came to the beta. Only ardent fans could have a desire to purchase the game in this condition and play this mode on this map 24/7.

Do you know what could radically change the situation?? Portal Mode! Just imagine these 50/50 battles with shovels or weapons from different eras on old maps of games from the Battlefield series!

If there is one thing that can sell a game to any player, regardless of their relationship to Battlefield, it is a new gaming experience that cannot be obtained by capturing points for the hundredth time! It was the new experience that made games in the battle royale genre popular, and it was “Portal” that could attract players to the new Battlefield. But, unfortunately, we have what we have, namely boring “dices” that give us a boring mode and map!

Personally, I was a little surprised by this approach of the developers to choosing a map and mode for the beta! It seems that they prepared the beta in rush mode, and yet the game itself looks a month before release a little better than what was shown to us during the beta test. And just like that, we smoothly approached the next problems of the beta – these are.

Bugs and network code

To be honest, I don’t even know what I can add here: flying through obstacles, falling through textures, etc. Yes, of course, the developers have already accustomed us to this kind of problems even at release, not to mention beta tests (hello Cyberpunk and other games), but maybe this behavior in general is the result of our spinelessness? Yes, yes, my young viewer, by coming to the store and buying another piece of unfinished code or plunging headlong into all sorts of early access, you are the one who stimulates the laziness of developers, but oooooh I got distracted.

Of course, these bugs do not significantly affect the gameplay: your character runs, jumps, throws grenades, planes fly around and tanks are on fire! You can even shoot! And sometimes even hit the target, that is, the game will think that you sometimes hit the target.

Another proof at your service…

Yes, we are, of course, talking about hit registration. I know, I know…

This is a long-standing problem with frostbite Battlefields, but guys! This is no longer funny, “Dice” has been sawing and optimizing their engine for so many years that during this time it would be possible to lick it to perfection and bring it to mind. In the meantime, we will run after each other and try to land the other horn, and maybe one of them will register.

And personally, this situation scares me, since the example of Battlefield 4 is still vivid in my memory, where the network code was never adjusted, and in Five (Battlefield V) it was tweaked only after some time. So my conclusion is quite disappointing, that this time at the release we will have to run around with one burning spot from the fact that your next shot has gone into oblivion.

My dear friend, here I am talking about how the beta had problems, but is everything really that bad?? No, not really, there are certainly bright spots that allow me to believe in this game. And let’s just talk about them!

Pros

For me personally, a huge plus is changing the modules on weapons right in the middle of the battle. This is an innovation that can make the game more interesting, diversify it from a tactical point of view, not to mention the banal convenience when you don’t have to relocate and change weapon settings at the cost of your team’s ticket, but right on the run you can change your weapon to suit the changed combat situation.

Another undoubted advantage was the increase in the pace and dynamics of the game itself thanks to the introduction of such things as tackles, sprints and aiming while reloading. Oh my god, how convenient this is! You don’t lose sight of your enemy and after a few seconds of amazing animations (and for the AK “Daisa” they tried to make excellent animations) you are ready to fight your opponent again.

And perhaps that’s all for now. Yes, I attribute all this dynamically changing weather and other things like them to nothing more than commercial moves and tricks, because after some 10-20 skating rink you won’t even remember about some kind of tornado, rain, etc., no matter how, on the contrary, over time these weather conditions begin to interfere or irritate!

The same can be said about the introduced specialists: in a Battlefield environment, where each combat unit must perform a specific role and task on the battlefield, highly specialized specialists may simply not come to court with their skills. But this is just my opinion, naturally we will talk in more detail about all aspects of the new Battlefield after release. And now it’s time to sum up.

As for me, “Dice” was in a hurry with the beta test! The state of the game in which it appeared before us during the test speaks of its incompleteness, and the beta test itself looks like a bone thrown to the players, and not as an invitation to get acquainted with the finished product in order to make a decision about its purchase!

In general, you can happily give this test a C with a fat minus and wait for the release of the game, hoping for the same “Portal” and the conscience of “Dice”, which will gnaw at the developers every day until they finally fix this fucking network code, and I strongly do not recommend pre-ordering the game!
